The following press release was written by the Chatham County Planning Department.

After nearly 18 months of development with broad public input, Chatham County announces that the final draft of its Comprehensive Plan will be available for public comment from July 18 until August 28, 2017. The plan is designed to cover the next 25 years.

Residents can view the final draft plan and provide public comment online or submit written comments to the Planning Department at PO Box 54, Pittsboro NC 27312.

A public hearing on the plan has also been scheduled for Monday, August 21, at 6 p.m. in the Historic Courthouse in Pittsboro.

The US Census consistently reports Chatham County as one of the fastest growing counties in North Carolina. “The Comprehensive Plan will help the county plot a successful path forward as we continue to grow,” said County Planning Director Jason Sullivan.

An appointed Steering Committee and planning staff worked with a consultant, LandDesign, to develop the plan, which included many meetings and various opportunities for public input. “The plan is intended to be forward thinking, foster economic development, recognize the county’s assets, and manage growth, while also preserving its unique community character,” said Sullivan.

The plan addresses a number of elements, including transportation, agriculture, natural resources/environment, utilities/infrastructure, housing, economic development, health, parks and recreation, and land use. It sets forth goals, identifies key partnerships, and recommends feasible implementation steps over 25 years to achieve the community’s vision.

All meeting minutes, memos, materials, and information covered are available online. CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE PLAN AND PROVIDE INPUT.
